rice cooker

This is my new rice cooker, which I just bought this afternoon, after trying a half dozen more stores all across Madrid.

It wasn't the cheapest of models, but for some reason I liked it better than the other models with a more traditional (but flimsy looking) lid.

I've already made a batch of rice, which is yummy.

:-)

(Although I think I need to learn the rice/water proportions for each different kind of rice. The bottom wound up forming a crunchy crust, although I actually like that, reminds me of the stone pot bibimbop at Dok Suni in NY...)

I think this is going to be a very positive change in my life, especially since I'm still keeping a gluten- and yeast-free diet.

We got a nice little Panasonic one with a glass lid, which doesn't take up too much space and also allows for checking the progress. Different rice types do want more and less water, you may just have to feel your way (make notes) if the usual proportions for white and brown don't work. Having the cooker has increased the amount of rice eaten here, it's so easy to load and set up. Apparently even non-special-settings one can be used to make rice porridge, haven't tried that.

Yum, crunchy-chewy rice crust.

I don't know how to NOT end up with the chewy/crispy rice matt at the bottom.

Ignore the instructions not to open the lid and open the lid for a stir once or twice as the rice cooks, that's all. Early on the rice is more likely to settle.

I love my (also new) rice cooker! Don't know why I didn't buy one years ago. Just wonderful.

And hi, Lawrence!

The crunchy crust is the best part!

Crunchy crust is a treat. On the other hand, I think about this often, and have still not seen a reason why I would want a rice cooker. I cook very good rice, with a saucepan and boiling water. It's one of those very rare occasions where I don't see the need for the gadget.
