Thanks, everyone, for the epxressions of sympathy.
I am trying to be calm and rational about this.
So far I have only cancelled the contract for one book, but not yet it's follow-up.
And I have threatened one publisher that I will cancel another (for a book that's already been announced, alas) unless he comes up with a less ludicrous contract (which he finally sent me today). But I am prepared to walk away from the project if need be.
Sigh.
But I am trying to be calm and not drastic about any of this.

Date: 2005-02-11 09:02 pm (UTC)Check with your friends and mentors -- SOMEONE has gone through this type of war before and would have some insight. I know that Bob Asprin had some nasty dealings with Donning and money past due many years ago.
Right now, I don't have any one that I can recommend to you, but if you ask, someone will know something.
Use "The Power Of Six Degrees Of Separation", Luke. :)

Date: 2005-02-12 01:54 pm (UTC)It all becomes much simpler if I decide to go to "war" with the publisher and sacrifice the decade plus friendship we've enjoyed.
That's what I'm just working myself up to, much as I don't want to have to go there.
Sigh.
