Just finished reading BELMONDO STYLE by Adam Berlin. It's a novel about a 16 year old kid, who's gay, and whose father is a professional pickpocket. It's got a really charming voice, especially at the beginning. Because the novel follows so closely the make-believe-world-of-movies, however, things get out of hand. But the first section is full of lots of beautiful details about New York City, and running, and the relationship between father and son. And even the latter parts are still well-written, it's just a different type of pace. I'm curious to read his first novel, and especially curious to see what he'll write next. In many ways, the voice works very well as a YA novel, and I hope he continues in this/that vein....
