Perhaps we should report this to the FBI? I may be wrong, but I think there's a crime here.

There is certainly cause for a class-action lawsuit.

Hopefully, when the police come for him, he'll have some heroin on hand.

It seems unlikely; there were more keywords used (http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2009/04/12/amazon-possibly-using-category-metadata-to-filter-rankings/) than he has listed in his alleged code.

Also, it feels wrong for the way I understand Amazon to work. I have no proof -- I just use the side a lot, and don't know how it is set up -- but my job is to understand this stuff, so I think my instincts on whether a security breach "feels" right are pretty decent.

Jonquil calls shenanigans on that theory: http://jonquil.livejournal.com/824367.html

And a troll claiming credit would be metatrollage, wouldn't it?

This is what I wanted to comment on his entry:

Wow, PRANKS are fun.

I screen-captured your entry and sent it to my lawyer, who seems to think we have grounds for a civil suit. I also sent to the legal departments at amazon, my publishers and the author's guild.

I also sent the screen capture to the DEA, and they found your confession about heroin use very fascinating. In fact, as I type this they are most likely getting a warrant to tap all of your phone lines and monitor your electronic communications.

Whee! You're RIGHT, this is a LOT of fun!

Enjoy what's left of your life!
