Final time in Ljubljana
Jun. 15th, 2008 01:17 pmHaven't had much free time (or free time coupled with internet connectivity) the past few days, so will do a recap once I'm back in Madrid again.
Unfortunately, the past two days have been non-stop rain but today is lovely (if a bit chill) so since I had to check out at 11am but we're not being taken to the airport until 1:45 (my flight isn't until 6 but one of the Turkish poets who read at the festival last night also needs to be taken to the airport and rather than make them go and come back and turn around again to bring me I've agreed to go early and just kill time at the airport with one (or both) of the two books I have left to read) I have wandered around the city center a bit, taking some tourist snaps and browsing a touristy flea market and so on. A pleasant morning, and nice to get a chance to see the city showing its better colors; Ljubljana has many riverside cafés and it is all quite pleasant (for my tastes today with the sun, although even in the rain the locals sit outside, I think in part because one cannot smoke indoors and so (mostly) smokers are always out there gossipping and smirting and so on).
The city seems to be fairly shut down on Sundays, though: even the hotel kitchen isn't operating, just beverages. So I guess I'll try and forage for something at the airport...
Food has been difficult, and I've had to eat far more wheat this trip than I'd have liked.
I did find some good and inexpensive ricecakes at the Mercator supermarket chain once I got into Ljubljana, but they were closed yesterday afternoon and today and I hadn't bought enough packets (thinking I'd be able to eat MORE).
There is a veggie restaurant in Ljubljana that'd been recommended (Vegedrom) but it's not exactly nearby, and thus hasn't been convenient to anything I've had to get to before/after...
I am looking forward to being able to cook for myself again...
