Last night, one of my fillings fell out. I stopped by my dentist's office today but, because of the upcoming holidays here in Spain (6th and 8th, plus Christmas) he's booked up through the end of the year. His nurse did slot me in during his lunch period on Monday the 17th, though.

This morning I had a sudden excruciating back pain, sort of like lumbago but higher up on my back. I managed to get an appointment tonight at the local massage place I go to, and she used some ultrasound as well as massage to treat it. I'm feeling better but it's still not cured, and I have no idea why or how it happened.

My friend Vincent came to Madrid today for lunch, although his flight from Rome was delayed so we couldn't necessarily go anywhere very interesting. We wandered around Madrid a bit, doing boring but productive errand type things. And then he caught his evening flight to Paris.

Tomorrow is the monthly social of the local SCBWI chapter, which I used to run. I've been culling children's book catalogs from around the world and other writing-related magazines to give away, and plan to haul a wheeled suitcase with many of same to the meeting. There's a recycling bin just outside the place we meet, for anything no one claims at the meeting.

It hurts too much to just throw the stuff away without first trying to find another home for them. Years of accumulating them at bookfairs and all. A great opportunity for someone(s) to get a lot of useful and interesting info in one quick and easy swoop.

Today I brought two bags of English-language gay and/or lesbian magazines over to the local gay center for their archives, rather than simply dumping them in a recycling bin.

It's hard for me to get rid of the stuff, given I'm such a pack rat, but if it goes to a good home, it's easier for me.

(I regularly collect ephemera about the Spanish GLBT movement--pamphlets, posters, flyers, manifestos, free magazines, etc.--for an archive at the University of Stanford's Library, which allows me to channel my pack rat instincts toward something socially productive.)

Hopefully I'll find a home for a nearly-complete run of the Spanish gay magazine ZERO.

I gave a set away once before, a few years ago, to someone who was starting a gay archives in Mexico City. But then I inherited someone else's, since I couldn't let it just get tossed, and in the intervening years it's only grown and I don't have space for it any more. Not if I can find somewhere else for it to live and be used.
