Back from ICFA
Mar. 21st, 2007 07:40 pmI'm back from Florida, where I attended the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts. It as my first time at ICFA, and I had a great time, although I think I was over-programmed (I was on a panel on gender and learning in kidzbooks, a poetry reading, a smut reading, a panel on how to write about sex, and also moderated a session); I was happy to do so many events, but it left me with less time to actually go to anyone else's program items, not to mention just hanging out by the pool (which I managed to do, but almost only at night).
It was like a low-stress or relaxacon version of WisCon in many ways, if that makes sense.
But since I have so little community over here about many of the kinds of things that people at the conference are writing or reading or otherwise working on, it was very stimulating for me. (I have literary community over here, but since so much of what the conference is concerned with, especially this year's focus on sexuality and SF, is going on in English, it's not quite the same.)
It was lovely to finally meet
grahamsleight and
fjm in person, as well as many other new people, both on and off LiveJournal. (I think it is a conference with an unusually high percentage of LJ users.) And nice to get a chance to see folks like
vschanoes and
d_aulnoy again, especially since neither is likely to be at WisCon this year (:-<) due to their getting doctorates (:->).
I'm uploading my photos from the conference and my trip the Evergaldes to my flickr account, and will try and blog a few of each here when they're up.
I'm utterly exhausted, both from the jet-lag and having slept so little during the conference. And the change in climate (mid-80s in FL to just-above-freezing in Madrid) has also been an additional complication in adjusting to being home again.
I am dealing with the backlog of emails, and post-conference things I've promised to send off, and so on. At least I pushed off the television interview that was cancelled just before my trip until Friday morning, so I'll hopefully slip back into a bit more Spanish fluency by then...
