Too much flux!
Nov. 12th, 2005 02:13 pmMuch of my friendslist is aghast at the new that SciFi.com is shutting down its online fiction department at the end of the year. Since I don't like to read online, and had never submitted anything to Ellen, this doesn't affect me much, personally, although it's always a shame to see another paying short fiction market disappear.
My major upset in similar news was learning, yesterday, that David Rosen had left BookSpan to become editorial director of Abrams. I'm happy for David and hope he enjoys the new challenges there, but am worried what will happen to the InsightOut Book Club (for gay and lesbian titles), which David was such a stalwart champion of and fought to keep going even though it didn't have the membership numbers of other book clubs. (It's members did tend to spend more per member than in other clubs, though, which helped him keep it running for so long.) I've not heard that there are plans to shut the club down, but I'm afraid that without such a strong in-house defender to keep it going...
Bookspan shut down their Traditions Jewish Book Club after a period of only a year or few.
And I know that the Venus Book Club editor left recently to become an editor over at Alyson, although I've not heard if anyone has replaced him at Venus and/or if they're continuing the erotica club.
