Still in this doldrums. Ho hum.
Last night I started reading Dorothy Dunnett's DOLLY AND THE COOKIE BIRD. And I think I've read it before. I don't recall who did it but I am getting more and more of a sense of deja vu as I continue reading (well, I stopped after maybe 70 pages).
My records show that I read DOLLY AND THE SINGING BIRD and DOLLY AND THE BIRD OF PARADISE in 2001, and DOLLY AND THE STARRY BIRD in 2004.
I feel positive I haven't read any other DOLLY titles, but obviously I must be mistaken since I am equally sure I've read this.
I didn't read it under the alternate title MURDER IN THE ROUND.
Perplexing.
In other recent reading:
I rea da few more of Dorothy Gilman's MRS. POLLIFAX mysteries, which were what i've needed these past few days: feel-good and familiar.
I also read her UNCERTAIN VOYAGE, which I found to be curious. Unlike the MRS. POLLIFAX series, this is all about internal development. Also, the character is the opposite of Mrs. Pollifax: not so much because she is young, but because she is an innocent stranger who is suddenly embroiled in international espionage, but from the outside (she's not CIA or anything).
The writing of UNCERTAIN VOYAGE actually reminded me very much of my own writing. Or at any rate, as I rea dit, I could easily see a friend telling me that I write in exactly the same fashion.
I read
pbray's DEVLIN'S JUSTICE, which was perfectly readable midlist fantasy, except she did something I hate. Sigh.

Some more publishing-related frustrations, but oh well. I'm beginning to bore myself with all these projects getting scrapped.
