I see

Yesterday, I went to the place I'd bought my glasses and had my vision re-checked.

I'd actually been to my optomitrist in March 05 hen I was back in NYC, and evidently my vision had deterioated .5 in either eye (-3 for the right, -2.5 for the left).

I have been seeing not-as-well with my current glasses for a while now, but it turns out that my vision has in fact gotten better during the interval (-2.75 in the right and -2.25 in the left). (either that or I was extremely tired on the day I had my eyes checked in NYC.)

I am starting to develop some astigmatism, but when she tested me with the minimum astigmatism correction I saw worse than without it.

So the end suggestion was not to change my glasses just yet.

We'll see how things are tonight; am meeting my friend Jesús to go to Circulo de Bellas Artes for one of the films in a cycle of Israeli Cinema. (The Spanish title is "Alas Rotas," or "Broken Wings".)

I've had the opposite effect recently. When I got new contacts, I found I could use slightly weaker ones. I think I dropped a quarter diopter in one eye, and a half in the other (which meant the same contacts for both eyes, for a change). I'm in the -7 range, by the way.

I don't always wear my glasses. Which is probably good and bad. I take them off for reading and other close-up stuff, but I also wind up losing them often, because I forget where I put them down (and can't always see them since I'm not wearing them!)

When I first got an adjustment for astigmatism, it took me a week of wearing the new glasses full-time till stair risers stopped canting at awful angles. I guess eye muscles can be stubborn about changing their extent of compensation.

Good to know this.

I will probably try to hold out as long as possible.

My fear is that once I move to treatment for astigmatism, my eyes will get lazy and I will stop being able to see at all without them.
