Today I went to visit my osteopath. He spent the whole session working on my injured ribs, trying to get the muscle tissue under the ribs to loosen up and unstick, since that's in part what's causing the discomfort. Still some inflamation, he says. Sigh. So maybe some baths over the next few days with rock salt...
And I'll go back to see him again in early Oct when I get back from NYC and then again after the Frankfurt Bookfair.
Yesterday I went to the audiologist, who confirmed that I am losing hearing in one ear. Or rather, there's a frequency that drops out because it's the same as a tinny noise I hear all the time. (Well, not all the time, since when there's lots of other background noise I don't notice it, although perhaps I'm hearing it and just blocking it out; mostly when I'm lying down, though). Not anything grave or urgent or seriously distressing, but a bother.
Tonight, I don't know why, but three different people clapped me on the shoulder on my left side, pushing down on my injured ribs. Ouch. Sigh.
(They're more sensitive/sore right now after the osteopath's visit.)
Didn't get much writing work done today, although did get a response from a children's publisher in Georgia (the country, not the state) for a meeting in Frankfurt.
Only the "non-lucrative" countries want to meet with us: Georgia, Iceland, etc. (As opposed to Germany or France, say, who have actual €€ to spend on buying books.)
I think very few people are as foolish as I am to go out of their way to contact them, and they're grateful for the expression of interest. (Or maybe they just like our books, and we're more flexibile/understading--i.e. cheaper--than the Big Corporations.)
