Eureka!

I found out why I've been having such problems with my laptop batteries, evidently they've been voluntarily recalled due to a manufacturing problem that makes them overheat:

Which is a relief.

I've requested replacements, now I just hope they arrive promptly.

The problem is that I need to travel this week and mine won't hold a charge during the trip... :-(
