Ups and downs
Aug. 7th, 2007 07:43 pmMaybe it's pre-wedding emotionalness/pre-trip nerves, but I find my patience for incompetence lately is lower than normal, and so many people I'm dealing with are being so sloppy with things (documents) they shouldn't. Not that I am a saint in this regard, although my sin is primarily one of tardiness rather than lack of attention to detail. I find it especially bothersome to be paying someone to do a basic job and having to correct basic mistakes (dates, names, places, etc.) they have introduced into the document or whatever.
And that's to say nothing of the .docs I've been getting for BEST GAY POETRY. So far, I've gotten over a dozen submissions and, alas, only ONE of them has actually managed to follow the very basic instructions in the guidelines, which ask for poets to include their name (yes, I have had at least three submissions which have the poem in the .doc file and no other identifying information), mailing address and email address (this is a standard submission requirement, please!), a bio, and the previous publication info.
Nonetheless, today has been productive in that Isma and I managed to find ties that match our suits, and I also found a pink shirt in my size.
We also finally have all our travel documents, which merely took a while to keep reprinting things out with the correct information... Sigh.
(Alas, the travel agent is only one of the less-than-meticulous folks we've been having to correct things for, or otherwise do their job and then pay them for it.)
And I bought a plastified map of Buenos Aires today, which helps me put everything in better perspective (the guidebooks have detailed neighborhood maps but this over-all plan of the city is easier for me to understand).
We still need to pack, and to buy travel supplies, but the major stuff is falling into place, it seems.
Not managing to get any significant writing-related work done, although this is an understandable problem right now.
:-)
Mostly, I'm clearing my plate for the time I'll be on the honeymoon and dealing with loose ends and business busy work, like signing the contracts for ULTIMATE GAY EROTICA 2008 which showed up in the pile of mail that was forwarded to me yesterday, which is a story sale I haven't yet mentioned here.
