Queer Jewish Books suggestions
Jul. 19th, 2005 07:21 pmAt the Queer Shabbaton (www.queershabbaton.org) in Amsterdam in August, I want to be able to offer a partial bibliography of queer Jewish books/writing for the Writing Out Lives workshop. I'll also be asking people to suggest other relevant titles they know if, especially from non-English languages. So I decided to draw up off the top of my head some titles; while it does not pretend to be exhaustive, the list is meant to be inclusive, meaning that there are titles I did not like personally as a reader but which are relevant because of their strong Jewish gay or lesbian content. I'd welcome any suggestions/comments/other kibbitzing.

(One question I have is whether or not to include books where the queer Jewish character plays a secondary role, such as Jane Yolen's BRIAR ROSE; the workshop will be "Writing Our Lives" and will discuss the differences in writing for audiences that are familiar with queer references but not Jewish ones or vice versa or neither or both...)
