Wow, we're having one of those summer deluges. Good thing I was only a few blocks from home when it suddenly got so dark, managed to make it here with two minutes to spare.

Yesterday, I wandered through the Madrid Book Fair, 300 or so bookstalls set up in the Retiro park. A bit depressing actually. Not just because our two most recent picture books were so not in existence (let alone our earlier titles) but instead of having backlist, as many of the specialist stores used to bring, everyone (booksellers, publishers, etc.) seemed to have mostly the same handfull of frontlist titles and little else. So it was all a bit pointless. Not really much that suddenly grabs your attention as being new or interesting. The only booth that did so was a consortium of 13 independent publishers from Argentina, since they were all unknown here (the books aren't otherwise distributed here).

Heard today that there's a nice review of LA AVENTURA DE CECIIA Y EL DRAGÓN in the June issue of CLIJ (Cuadernos de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil) an important trade magazine for kidzbook shere in Spain. Although Sara and my subscription copy hasn't shown up yet, so I haven't been able to read it!

With the sheeting water outside, I'm going to make a pot of tea and read a fun Charlotte MacLeod mystery, I think.
