I hit 4 bookstores in Brooklyn after my meeting, and only bought 6 paperbacks int he last of them. Then another 4 when I got into Manhattan, en route to dinner with my friend Vincent and some friends of his at a Malaysian restaurant on Lafayette.
Today will, I think, be a book-free day.
I've been finding lots of books I think I'll want to read but not the books that're actually on my list (more Dodie Smith, the Dorothy Dunnetts i'm missing, the Guy Gavriel Kays I'm missing, Nancy Springer's NEEDY CREEK, etc.)
Last night, we all wound up coming back to my place after dinner and drinking champagne until the wee hours of the morning. Until around 4am, when one of them used the lavatory and the loose gasket or washer or whatever it is in the handle did something and the toilet wouldnt' stop flushing constantly, and there was an embarrasseed exodus after everyoone took a hand at trying to fix it, and I wrote a note and slipped it under the super's door (not wanting to wake him since it wasn't actually overflowing or anything) but when the super's wife called this morning it had stopped flushing at last. Hopefully it'll be looked at before too long (I'd mentioned the problem to him last time I was in town, too).
Still and all, I didn't get myuch sleep, so I think a siesta is not uncalled for.
I also need to take a bit of time and get organized: deal with paperwork, figure out what I need to get done while I am in town, etc.
