Ugh

I sound much worse (or at last a whoel slew of registers deeper) when I speak, but I'm actually feeling much better. At lest, unless I cough or sneeze. But it's that absence of pain every time one swallows that does wonder for one's mood.

The cold has, in addition to moving down into the chest, also gone up into my sinuses.

Went to bed a little before 4am last night, got up at 8.30 to eat something and take another antibiotic, then went to bed again until 1pm.

Was supposed to go to Eytan Fox's new film, WALK ON WATER, as part of the Israeli Film Festival at the Circulo de Bellas Artes (just a few blocks away) tonight, but I don't think I should leave the house today, even though I'm feeling a bit better.

Among other things, my stomach never deals well with antibiotics, and this time is no different. Sigh.

Fox is perhaps best known for his film YOSSI AND JAGGER (an Israeli-Palestinian gay love story); WALK ON WATER is about a Mossad hitman who befriends the gay grandson of an ex Nazi officer he's tracking.

This is not going to be an especially coherent post, I'm afraid, but as I've been reading the numerous discussions of the impact of slash on mainstream SF/F, I can't help thinking of all the homoerotic manga that's publishing's newest cash cow.

Manga (at least yaoi) seems to be able to combine the homoerotic power-plays, romance plotline, media connections, etc. of slash in a commerical format.

Many mainstream SF publishers are now starting manga lines.

What I wonder is, when will someone write something in prose that recreates manga in novel format (which is different than slash, although they do share a sensibility)?

In some ways, I can more-easily imagine a YA writer (Tamora Pierce, say) pulling this off, than an adult genre writer. Not that one couldn't, it just seems like, if Pierce decided to take on a homoerotic relaitonship, especially in multi volume format, the result would most similarly recreate the experience of reading manga...
