Ferzan Ozpetek, The Last Harem
Nov. 1st, 2004 11:47 amLast night I watched the Ozpetek's second fim, although it is the third to be released here in Spain. A complex tale-within-a-tale sort of story, filmed partly in Turkish, partly in Italian, and partly in French (we watched it in the original(s) with Spanish subtitles). Visually very lush. The storytelling was a bit confusing, especially compared to something like his next film, LE FATE IGNORANTI, which I still think is so intricately and well-constructed. He has a fourth film from 2003, LA VENTANA DE ENFRENTE in Spanish translation, which I think had a theatrical release but is not yet on video/dvd... He seems to be releasing a film every other year, so next year should see the release of his fifth.
I find him a very interesting director.
