Yesterday i read Marcia Muller's A WILD AND LONELY PLACE and went to bed at a reasonable hour (3am?) But I couldn't fall asleep. So I got up again and started reading her THE BROKEN PROMISE LAND until around 7am, and then I finally finishe dit when I woke up this morning.
I don't know why I was so sleepless last night. Too mcuh tea? The long siesta I wound up taking in the afternoon?
Hmmm.
Muller's Sharon McCone series is developing in a curious manner, especially with this last book, reminded me of what Sharyn McCrumb did with her ballads series (aside from the superficial resemblence of the song lyrics that play a major role in the last book). But the tone of the series has changed now that McCone's role as a private investigator (and who she works for) has also changed. Still readable. Just different kind of books now. Perhaps a little too consciously trying to break her out of just the mystery readership? (Although not so blatant as some other authors have been, actually.) I've got another two or three of them here, may pick up some others if I find them in Chicago or Madison. (I may as well finish off the series, I've gotten this far!)
