Still in my post-Bologna slump. Not abel to get much done. Although it wasn't helped by the fact that I had a date last night with a Lufthansa flight attendant. Met him around 1am, came home again to my place around 1pm the next day. Perfectly pleasant time, but didn't get much sleep. Although it was sort of weird/fun to be in a hotel; despite all the travel I do, I hardly ever stay in actual hotels. And it's always convenient to be abel to mess up one bed and then go to sleep in the other, still-clean one. :-)
Got an email today to reprint a SF story I wrote in collaboration for an anthology, will post details once I confirm with my collaborator.
Toodling along with my trains-lations, unfortunately, they changed one of the texts so I have to figure out what's changed and retranslate it. Sigh. They also sent me another 15 pieces to work on today. Just when I was hoping to enjoy a day or two with a clean slate (translation-wise, at any rate; plenty of other overdue or soon-to-be due things to writer or whatever.)
Ran the SCBWI monthly social tonight, although few people showed up. It's finally nicely spring-like here, which probably explains it. Also, I didn't send out nagging emails on Friday and yesterday reminding people that it was today. Doesn't anyone in this country use a day-planner?
Stopped off at the local second-hand foreign language bookshop, and they had a whole chunk of Dorothy Dunnets in the 3-for5 Euros section. So I bought GAME OF KINGS, PAWN IN FRANKINCENSE, THE RINGED CASTLE, and CHECKMATE. But they didn't have QUEEN'S PLAY and THE DISORDERLY KNIGHT, so I still can't start the series. I also picked up INTERFACE by Stepehn Bury (I've never read any Neal Stephenson, although this isn't supposed to be the best of his) and another of Westlake's Dortmunder novels (DROWNED HOPES) to reach another 3-for-5.
They also had Janet Evanovich's ONE FOR THE MONEY, which I had looked for, couldn't find, and then after I'd already bought the others, spotted misshelved. Yay! I read TWO and have THREE through NINE, but wanted to read ONE before continuing on with the series. (Everyone says THREE is lousy, but I plan to forge on ahead anyway in case I agree.)
It's actually been weeks and weeks since I've read a book. I'm hoping to get through my post-Bologna follow-up, write some overdue or nearly-due things, and otherwise catch up to myself, and finally be able to get back to reading again... But I'm such a binge reader, I hate reading little chunks at a time of a book I like, and I know I don't have large enough chunks of time to read the books I want to read right through. So I've been "being good" and trying to work, more or less, these past few weeks.
I think it is definitely affecting my mood, though, this lack of reading--if nothing else, it's an indicator of being far more stressed than I should be/normally am, and I'm not liking it.
Hmmm.
