Insomnia/Spring
Feb. 4th, 2004 04:48 pmI don't think the two subjects are related, but I can't help marveling at what a lovely day we're having in Madrid today, I've had my balconies open all day. It was said we were going to get up to 20ยบ C this afternoon. Not sure what we hit but it's been nice.
And, alas, tomorrow I fly in to snowy NY...
Last night I had such insomnia that I literally didn't sleep all night. I'm surprised to be so lucid on zero sleep, and I've actually had a quite productive morning. The first files for the two new translation gigs showed up and I've been zapping back some of the shorter ones at them. I'm going to enjoy doing these gardening and mineral ones MUCH more than the trains.
Otherwise have been running around, paying bills, schlepping things to the recycling bins around the corner, trying to tie up loose ends like that.
One of the things I did last night was finish Mark Anthony's GATES OF WINTER. I hate how it just keeps going on and on. Although the 6th and next book is supposed to be the final one.
I'm surprised I've even read this far, since the series contains so many things I hate: a parallel world next to earth, secret all-powerful/all-seeing societies who are studying people from this other world, conspiracy theories galore, an evil overlord, clash of magic and technology, etc.and so forth. But they're very readable. Even if it's frustrating that tone of the main characters can't make up his mind between the boy and the girl he's in love with, and therefore all three of them are grumpy and in desperate need of getting laid for book after book...
