Writing Quotes
Jan. 18th, 2004 05:54 pmI'm going to make two related posts, which may be (or become) memes. (I'm not entirely sure of the terminology.)
I often write down snippets or quotes from books I read. They're about all sorts of things, really, but since there are so many writers who also read this LJ, I thought I'd post some about writing, books, poetry, reading, etc. and ask y'all to also post some of your favorite quotes about same subjects. They could be about craft, or amusing squibs about the writing life, or whatever.
Here are some that I've jotted down over the years:
But I'm doing this wrong, aren't I? Once upon a time. That's how all fairy tales begin, isn't it? Or is it where they end? I'm not certain any more.
Listen to the story. When you tell it to someone else, you can start wherever you like.
--Susan Wade, MOURNING DOVES
"At breakfast!" said Louise in an awed voice. "A man who can read poetry at breakfast would be capable of anything."
--Mary Stewart, MADAM, WILL YOU TALK? pg. 54
The library was where he went when he desired the peace of a book that bore no weight of ownership, in a place were books were like walls.
--Michaelle Sagara West, "The Vision of Men" in the anthology THINGS INVISIBLE TO SEE
( some more quotes on writing, books, poetry, etc. )
